Public house. Late C17, possibly partly earlier. Coursed squared marlstone
rubble with some ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roof with limestone-ashlar
gable stacks. 2-unit plan with stair tower and rear outshut. 2 storeys plus
attic. Symmetrical 2-window front has a central doorway in a shallow stone
porch; inner and outer doors have ovolo-moulded arched surrounds. Outer bays
have 3-light stone-mullioned windows below a continuous drip mould which returns
round the right end wall, and have 2 tall cross windows at first floor. Roof has
gable parapets and 2 gabled roof dormers. Right gable wall has blocked mullioned
windows to cellar and first floor. Rear has a tall gabled stair tower against
which is an outshut with a 2-light mullioned window. All windows have leaded
glazing. Interior: large open fireplace with chamfered and stopped bressumer.
Upper part of front wall may be an early alteration.
