GREAT TEW THE SQUARE

Small house. c.1700, possibly partly earlier. Marlstone rubble and ashlar;
Stonesfield-slate roof with limestone-ashlar gable stacks. 3-unit plan with rear
outshut. One storey plus attic. Ashlar front has a doorway to right of centre
with a fielded 6-panel door and C19 canopy; to right is a 3-light wood mullioned
and transomed window, and to left a 2-light casement, both with leaded glazing
and flat arches with projecting keyblocks. At first floor are two 3-light leaded
gabled dormers. Left bay of front projects and has a small casement. Right gable
wall has a drip mould. Left gable, adjoining No.56 (q.v.), has a parapet.
Full-width tiled outshut to rear. C19 stacks have plinths and moulded caps.
Interior not inspected.
