14/158 Churchyard wall and lychgate
to NW of Church of St. Martin
Wall and lychgate. 1863 by G.E. Street. Coursed squared marlstone and limestone
rubble with limestone-ashlar dressings; timber-framed canopy with
Stonesfield-slate roof. Wall is approx. 1.3m. high with a chamfered stone coping
and borders the west side of the churchyard returning for a short distance at
each end. The wooden gate at the southern end is of a cross pattern with
wrought-iron infill. At the north-west corner is a pair of similar gates, above
which is a simple canopy resting on 4 stop-chamfered posts, arch-braced at the
ends, with crosses in the open gables. Included for group value.
