SANDFORD ST.MARTIN WORTON ROAD
Farmhouse now house. Probably C17, re-modelled mid C19. Coursed and random
limestone rubble with marlstone-ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roof with
ashlar gable stacks. 3-unit through-passage plan; 2 storeys and 2 storeys plus
attic. 3-window coursed-rubble front of higher section has a central 4-panel
door with rectangular overlight, a 2-light casement above, and has 3-light
casements in the flanking bays, all with flat arches. Datestone is inscribed
1857, Roof has gable parapets with moulded projecting kneelers and
double-shafted stacks with plinths and moulded caps. Lower random-rubble bay to
left has irregular fenestration. Rear has further casements: at ground floor
with C17 stop-chamfered lintels; at first floor with leaded glazing and flat
arches. Higher section has 3 gabled roof dormers. Interior: stop-chamfered
beams; back-to-back open fireplaces with bread oven.
