10/83 Gate Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Late C17 with late C19 alterations and additions. Coursed limestone
rubble with stone dressings. C20 machine-tile roof. L-plan with gabled
cross-wing; sited at right angles to road. Two storeys and gable-lit attic.
South-west front: integral stone end stack to right with C20 brick top, external
stone lateral stack to left (top part rebuilt in C19) with pitched-roofed link
to attic chamfered offsets and brick top stage with stone cornice and C19
integral brick end stack to rear of cross-wing. Two-window front: hall range to
right has first-floor 2-light wooden casement with wooden lintel and C20 cill,
blocked first floor window to left (see wooden lintel) and ground-floor C20
two-light casement to right with wooden lintel. Cross-wing to left has
ground-floor C19 three-light wooden casement with chamfered stone dressings and
ground-floor C19 canted bay with hipped plain-tiled roof and 1-, 3-, 1-light
wooden casement. Central C20 half-glazed door in hall range with rectangular
overlight and C19 stone lintel. Left-hand return front: 2 windows; 2-light
wooden casements with flat stone arches. Pair of C19 gabled wings to rear of one
storey and attic flanking lean-to to centre with gabled stone semi-dormer.
Interior not inspected but noted as having ceiling beams.
