Farmhouse. Probably late C17, extended and probably altered in the late C18 or
early C19, and further enlarged in the late C19. Coursed limestone rubble with
stone dressings. c20 machine tile roof. Two-unit baffle-entry plan with later
additions. Two storeys and gable-lit attic With later addition of one stormy and
attic. South-east front: central brick ridge stack with weathering. Two-window
front; C19 three-light wooden mullioned and transomed wooden casements with
segmental stone-arched heads (late C20 ground-floor casement to left). Central
half-glazed 4-panelled door (2 lower flush panels) with 2-part rectangular
overlight and segmental stone-arched head. Probably c.1800 addition of one
storey and attic set back to right with integral stone end stack, gabled
semi-dormer with C20 two-headed wooden casement and half-glazed segmental-headed
door to left. Rear of main range, has central 2-storey half-hipped staircase
tower; 2-light wooden casements with wooden lintels. Late C19 stack. Interior:
late C17 oak winder staircase to rear rising to attic, with probably late C18
Chinese Chippendale balustrade. Chamfered spine beans with ogee stops.
Right-hand ground-floor room with blocked old fireplace and some C17 panelling
in cupboard to right. First floor not inspected but occupant (April 1987)
reports some panelling in bedrooms. The house has probably been refenestrated,
refronted or even partly rebuilt in the late C18 or early C19, from which tine
the staircase balustrade also seems to date. The window details of the lower
addition are similar to those of the main block.
