18/103 Dore's Cottage

GV II

House, latterly shop. Late C16 or early C17 with late C17 addition. Coursed
limestone rubble with stone slate roof (C20 machine tiles to rear). Four half
bays with cross passage off-centre to right. One storey and attic. Large
integral brick end stack to left, external stone lateral stack to rear with
brick shaft and brick ridge stack to right. Pair of gabled semi-dormers to left,
with 2- and 3-light wooden casements. Ground-floor C19 square bay to left
(former shop window) of 3 x 1 lights and 3-light small-paned C19 wooden casement
to right with wooden lintel. Late C17 projecting gabled wing off-centre to right
with integral brick end stack, 2-light wooden attic casement and ground-floor
2-light wooden casement, both with wooden lintels. C19 four-panelled half-glazed
door with wooden lintel to left of glazed nail-studded door. Blocked former
cross-passage doorway to right of wing (see straight joints and wooden lintel).
Interior: chamfered ceiling beams. Large inglenook fireplace in right-hand room
with wooden lintel and monolithic stone jambs. Blocked corner fireplace in front
wing. C17 oak winder staircase to front. Old oak floor boards. Blocked fireplace
in left-hand bedroom. Old cupboards with wrought-iron strap hinges. Roof with
collar trusses.
