COMBE PARK ROAD
SP41NW (South side)
House. Early C17, with possible medieval origins. Coursed limestone rubble;
gabled thatch roof; stone ridge and end stacks. 3-unit lobby-entry plan.
2-storey, 3-window range of 3-and 4-light casements with chamfered wood lintels.
Further 2-light casement to ground floor right. C20 plank door with wood lintel
to centre-left. Interior: large chamfered spine beans with stepped stops and
large, flat chamfered joists. In room to far right a stone open fireplace with
hollow-chamfered surround with 4-centred head. In room with C17 beams an open
fireplace with large chamfered timber bressumer. To rear of this room a stone
spiral staircase to first floor, with timber treads leading to attics. At
ground-floor entrance to staircase a timber doorway with Tudor-arched head.
Stone-flagged floors in rooms to centre and right. Roof shows evidence of
smoke-blackened timbers, but trusses and most rafters replaced C20.
