House. Early C17 to left, refronted in late C18; late C17 to right. Squared and
coursed limestone and coursed limestone rubble; roughcast front. Gabled stone
slate roof; end stacks of stone finished in brick. L-plan with rear right wing.
2 storeys and attic. Late C17 two-window range to right: fine wrought-iron
scroll brackets support flat hood over late C18 six-panelled door with
overlight. Flat stone arch over blocked window above door; 4 late C18/early C19
six-pane sashes. Mid C19 gabled roof dormers with 3-pane sashes set in moulded
wood architraves. Gabled bay to left has C17 two-storey gabled square bay
window: C19 casements with glazing bars to ground floor, and late C17 Ipswich
window with leaded-lights on first floor. C18 plank door set in chamfered wood
architrave to rear of central passage. Late C17 two-storey rear right wing; of
similar materials; to rear gable are flat stone arches over 3 late C17 cross
windows with leaded-lights. Interior: chamfered beams throughout. Central
passage has C19 panelled dado. Late C17 quarter-turn stairs with winders and
turned balusters set on closed strings. Bolection-panelled room of c.1680-1700
to rear right. First floor has fate C17 fireplaces with bolection-moulded
architraves; bolection-panelled overmantle, moulded cornice and panelled dado in
rear right room. Early C17 block to left of passage has late C17 bolection
panelling in first-floor room; in ground-floor room are late C17 rare bread
cupboard with butterfly hinges and niche with carved shelves, canopy and late
C17 cupboard doors. Collar-truss roofs with butt purlins. Roof of early C17
block not inspected.
