Hotel and 2 houses, now hotel. C17 origins; mostly late C18 and early C19. Two
houses to extreme left of c.1820. Coursed limestone rubble, colourwashed to
front; gabled Welsh slate roof; brick end stacks. House to centre, early C19
refronting of C17 house, is of similar materials and has stucco front. Both of
double-depth plans. 3 storeys. 2-window range to left has bracketed stone slate
pentice over C20 door with overlight and C20 bay windows; keyed stone lintels
over horned and unhorned 8-pane sashes above. 3-window range to central front
has similar pentice over C20 double doors, C20 casement and mid C19 bay window
with horned sashes; C20 windows to first floor, which also has early C14
canopied statue of the Virgin Mary reset above doorway; second-floor 8-pane
sashes. Late C18 (c.1770) block to right: of Flemish bond brick with stone
dressings and storey bands and moulded stone cornice beneath parapet; gabled and
hipped concrete tile roof. L-plan, with recessed wing attached to right. 3
storeys. 2-window range, with C18 panelled carriage doors set in archway with
keyed segmental-arched architrave to right; C19 six-panelled door with
decorative overlight set in keyed moulded stone architrave inside carriageway.
6-pane sashes set in keyed raised architraves; segmental arches over horned and
unhorned 6-pane sashes to early C19 bay on left. Early C19 rear left wing, of
limestone rubble with Welsh slate roof; sashes to rear right. Interior: C19
panelled doors. Passage between extreme left and central blocks has part of
early C17 chamfered plank and stud screen, and early C19 quarter-turn stairs to
rear; part of C17 winder stair with newel post on first floor; ground-floor of
central block has boxed beams and mid C18 panelling with bolection-moulded
overmantle set over segmental-arched fireplace with moulded mantle. To rear of
panelled room is stair-hall with stone flag floor, and early C19 dog-leg with
landing staircase; door to barrel-vaulted cellars. First floor to right and
attics not inspected but likely to be of interest.
