7/23 The Nest

GV II

House. Circa 1700. Coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings; concrete
plain-tile roof with rebuilt rubble gable stacks. L plan plus service range. 2
storeys plus attics. 2-window front has a pair of tall windows at first floor,
and at ground floor has a 12-pane sash and a blocked doorway plus a C20 porch
set to extreme left; 2 openings retain ashlar flat arches. Rear wing returns
from left; lower service range extends to right. Steep-pitched roof has stacks
to right and on the rear gable. Rear of main range and rear wing have further
tall windows, all with ashlar flat arches, which probably contained cross
windows. Interior: stop-chamfered spine bean; large open fireplace with cambered
stop-chamfered bressumer. Cellar has a scratched date 1795.
