14/27, 15/27 The Manor House and West Manor


Manor house, now 2 dwellings. Late C18/early C19 re-modelling and extension of
an earlier house, extended late C19/early C20. Coursed squared limestone with
some ashlar dressings and marlstone-ashlar quoins; Welsh-slate roof with ashlar
stacks. 3-unit plan with added rear wings. 3 storeys. 3-window front has 12-pane
sashes at ground and first floors and shorter sashes at second floor, except bay
3 which has tripartite ground- and first-floor windows. A gabled 2-storey porch,
between bays 2 and 3, has a further 12-pane sash above the 6-panel door; to
right of bay one is a blocked secondary entrance. All openings have flat arches.
2-window rear range, returning from left, has 4-pane C19/C20 sashes. Earlier
wing returning from right end has 12-pane sashes. Gable walls of main range show
evidence of a former large chimney projection and a steeper roofline. Main roof
has 3 stacks, and wings each have a gable stack, all with plinths and moulded
caps. Interior not inspected.
