II

House and part-converted stables. Probably midilate C18, altered C19. Coursed
limestone rubble with ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roof with ashlar
stacks. L plan with L-plan stable range. 2 storeys. Irregular 3-window front,
with chamfered rusticated quoins and storeyband, has a central doorway below a
9-pane sash, and to left is a similar window above two 16-pane sashes, all
openings with flush architraves and projecting keyblocks; to right is a large
3-light C19 stone-mullioned window above a similar 4-light window with transoms,
both with labels. Right end and return range have further C19 windows. Left end
has 2 architraved sashes at first floor and similar blocked openings below.
Roof, of moderate pitch, has 3 stacks with plinths and moulded caps. Lower rear
wing, returning from left, continues the storeyband but has casements plus the
present main entrance. Stable range, extending to left from wing and returning
to rear, also has a band and rusticated quoins; the rear section is now a
cottage. Interior not inspected. Formerly part of a large coaching inn.
