Farmhouse, now house and farmbuilding. Mid C17 and late C18. Coursed limestone
rubble with ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roofs with ashlar-and-brick
gable stacks. 2-unit plan extended to T-plan. 2 storeys plus attic. Earlier
lower range has a 2-window front which retains at first floor leaded 3-light
stone-mullioned windows with labels, and has later casements below, one cutting
into the remains of a mullioned window; rear has a further 3-light mullioned
window above a 4-light casement, and has a projecting stair tower with a 2-light
mullioned window in the gable and narrow stone windows in the side walls. An
inserted doorway in the stair tower approached by external steps suggests
conversion of the upper floor to a granary or hayloft. Taller C18 bay to left of
the range has tripartite sashes at each floor and a 3-light leaded dormer.
Contemporary cross-wing has similar windows plus the entrance in the angle, but
has leaded casements on the opposite face; rear of cross-wing steps down to a
lower range including a small barn, now a garage and outbuilding. A small stone
former stable dated 1829 is attached to the right end of the earlier range.
Interior: earlier range has an open fireplace, the remains of a winder stair
from cellars to attic, and has a through-purlin roof with principal rafters
crossed at the apex and a ridge beam. Later range includes a fine carved wooden
C18 fireplace. Formerly known as Hill View Farmhouse.
