12/139 Small barn and lofted stable
in range c.10m S of Lower
Manor Farmhouse and attached
mounting stock

Small barn and lofted stable. Late C18 with later roof to stable. Coursed rubble
limestone with dressed quoins. Small barn, to right, has stone slate roof, and 3
bays, with vent slits flanking wide central doorway. Doorway has dressed stone
jambs and C20 wooden lintel, and is set opposite larger doorway in rear wall.
Gable end to road has 3 square vent holes, rectangular pitching opening with
wooden lintel, vent slit in gable, and attached mounting block with 3 stone
steps. Original roof timbers, with double purlins on tie-beam and collar
trusses. Lofted stable, to left, has been re-roofed in Welsh slates, and has
off-centre board door with flanking stable windows, and square loft door. All
openings have wooden lintels. Included for group value.
