SP2204-2304 FILKINS AND BROUGHTON POGGS VILLAGE STREET
7/204 Fox House
House. Left bay probably C17 in origin, raised late C18 and dated WB 1727 on
quoin; right bay is early C18. C20 extension to rear. Coursed rubble limestone,
semi-dressed to right bay, with dressed quoins. Stone slate roof with moulded
stone gable copings and flanking chimneys rebuilt in brick. 2 storeys and attic,
2 bays. Right bay has moulded stone string at first floor level, and stone
mullion windows with recessed chamfers. Ground floor has 3-light window; first
floor has cross window. Left bay has wooden casements with single horizontal
glazing bars and wooden lintels. Lintel of 3-light ground floor window is c20; 2
upper 2-light windows have older lintels. Central C20 barred and glazed door,
with stone slab hood on C20 shaped stone brackets. Attic has skylight in left
bay and single light in left gable end. C20 rear wing in matching style.
Interior has stop-chamfered cross beam to ground floor ceiling of left bay, and
upper flight of winder staircase with old board doors in line with left chimney.
Right bay has chamfered stone fireplace, another axial winder stair, and one
truss with old principal rafters. Otherwise re-roofed.
