12/39 Ladyham

House. Dated 1583 to datestone above door. C18 re-fenestration. Squared coursed
stone; close-studded timber-framing with rendered infill to first floor right;
stone slate roof; various stone stacks. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window range.
Fibbed door to centre with stone round-arched hood. 12-pane sashes to all
openings. Gabled full dormer to left of centre. Interior: straight flight
staircase from ground floor to first floor. Winder staircase from first floor to
attic. Many rooms have open fireplaces with plain stone surrounds. History: once
the home of Sir Compton Mackenzie.
