Stables and brewhouse. Early C17 with minor later alterations. Regularly coursed
marlstone rubble; stone slate roof with coped verges and carved apexes;
weathervane to gable end of north range. L-plan. 2 storeys. Courtyard side of
west range has 4-light chamfered mullion window to left on ground floor and
chamfered 4-centred arches with plank doors to centre and right, latter with
4-light chamfered mullion window to each side; smaller 4-centred arch with plank
door directly above left of 2 right windows. Small lean-to to left gable end.
Courtyard side of north range has 2-light mullion window on ground floor to far
left and narrow 4-centred window with hollow spandrels in chamfered surround
directly above; 2-light mullion window on ground floor immediately to right and
chamfered 4-centred arch with identical opposing entrance to rear and 2-light
mullion window directly above to right. Plank door with wood lintel to far
right. Gabled dormer breaking eaves to left of 2-light mullion window on first
floor and axial stone ridge stack with moulded capping and dripstone to far
left. All windows have leaded casements and dripstones. Further mullion windows
and 4-centred doorways to rear. East gable end of north range has chamfered
4-light latticed mullion window with one of 3 lights directly above. Interior.
Inspection not possible at time of resurvey (August 1987) but likely to be of
interest.
