16/49 Corner House
House, latterly divided, now returned to one dwelling. Late C18 or early C19
possibly incorporating parts of an earlier building; later additions and
alterations. Regularly coursed and dressed limestone rubble; concrete tile roof
with coped verges. T-plan; main range probably originally of 3 bays, later
extended to left but straight joint concealed by refacing. 2 storeys and attic.
4 late C19 casements in late C18/early C19 plain stone surrounds directly below
eaves, one to left and 3 to right. Similar casements in corresponding positions
to ground floor plus additional casement with concrete lintel in position of
former gabled porch (outline visible) between 2 left windows. Several of
surrounds on both floors have projecting keystones. Plank door with glazed panel
to top behind late C20 gabled stone porch in second bay from right. 3 gabled
dormers in roof slope, all to right, 2 to right leaded. Integral ashlar end
stacks and ridge stack (possibly formerly an end stack) to left of centre, all
with moulded dripstones and capping. Interior. Inspection not possible at time
of resurvey (August 1987) but likely to be of interest. Occupies a prominent
