SJ 80 SW ALBRIGHTON C.P. ELM ROAD

6/5 The Elms

House. C16 or C17, remodelled early C18 with later additions and
alterations. Red brick front on sandstone plinth to pebbledash
rendered gable fronted wings; plain tiled roofs; 2 storeys and attics,
2:1:2 windows, Cl9 casements, plastered lintels with raised keystones;
6 panel door under rectangular overlight, plain painted sandstone
doorcase with moulded entablature on scroll brackets. Brick end pilasters
extend up to moulded stone eaves cornice above which are 2 C18 brick
gables, recessed panels painted with imitation glazing bars. C20 one
storey extension to left. Gable fronted wings are probably timber
framed, left hand one with inserted C19 brick stack. Axially placed
roof, partially hidden by facade, has central multiple brick stack
(re-built) on sandstone base. There is another multiple stack to the
rear and the back wall is said to have the date 1656 on it.
