Pair of houses, now shops. Early C19 with later additions and alterations.
Red brick, slate roof partly concealed by eaves parapet, red brick stacks
behind ridge. 3 storeys, wooden moulded eaves cornice with triglyphs;
2-window front, tripartite glazing bar sashes having cornices, fluted
to first floor, with paterae and rosettes. No. 23 (left) has C19 shop
front with moulded entablature supported on elaborate gilded console
brackets; late C20 shopfront to No. 25. Round-arched passageway to left,
leading to Clifton Place has 2 chamfered beams from late medieval house
apparently still in situ, front one with mortices for close-set vertical
posts and back one (originally internal) with intertwining leaf decoration
issuing from bird (left) and beast's (? dragon) head (right). Long
C19 hip-roofed red brick range to rear.
