Farmhouse. Probably C17, refaced in brick early C18. Red brick (random
bond) encasing or replacing timber frame, timber framed gables with
plaster infill, slate roof. Hall range of 2 unequal framed bays with
2-bay cross-wing projecting to right; later (probably C18) gabled
projection to left forming present H-plan. 2 storeys; framing: right
gable has 3 vertical struts from tie beam to collar with V-struts
from collar, left gable with single vertical strut from tie beam to
collar; 1:1:1 windows, segmental-headed 16-paned sashes to ground floor
(horned to centre) and casements directly below eaves to first floor (C19
to centre and right, C20 to left); boarded door under lean-to porch
in angle with right gable; red brick stack in roof slope of hall
range immediately to right of left gable. Full-length stone outshut
to rear with mid-C19 rubblestone addition at right-angles to rear on
left; C19 and C20 lean-tos to right of right gable. Interior: deep-
chamfered spine beam with straight-cut stops to left and ogee stops to
right in main ground-floor room (hall) with heavy joists; inglenook
fireplace and C18 staircase with turned balusters to left end of room;
several C17 plank and muntin doors with strap hinges, timber framed cross
walls [concealed by wallpaper at time of re-survey (July 1985)] and
roofs of Queen-strut construction.
