GV II
Farmhouse. Dated 1736, for John and Martha Maddoks; later additions and
alterations. Red brick (mixed bond); machine tile roof with external end
stacks, right in 2 sections. 2 storeys and gable-lit attic with floor
band to first floor to front and at eaves level to right gable end. 3
bays. Late C20 casements in slightly widened C18 openings to left and
right of central entrance. 6-panel door (top panels glazed) under C19
gabled hood. Moulded datestone above has inscription "Maddoks / John-
Martha / 1736". Mid-C19 two-storey brick addition set back to left.
Interior: not inspected but noted as having chamfered spine beam with ogee
stops to left ground-floor room and chamfered spine beams with heavy joists
to right ground-floor room. The course of Wat's Dyke (Scheduled Ancient
Monument County Nos. 112 and 113) runs through the farmyard on a north-
south alignment.
