9/76 Sandford House Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C18, possibly incorporating parts of an earlier building,
extended early C19 with later additions and alterations. Red brick; slate
roof. Original 3-bay house extended by one bay to right in early C19.
2 storeys and gable-lit attic with dentilled eaves cornice; chamfered plinth
and cellar. 4-window front; segmental-headed glazing bar sashes, those
to right of straight joint late C20. Originally central entrance; plain
pilastered doorcase with bracketed flat hood and rectangular barred overlight,
6-panel door. External end stack to left rebuilt late C20 (as is whole
wall) and ridge stack to right (formerly also to gable end) at junction
with C19 addition. C19 two-storey brick lean-to to rear. Interior.
Several rooms have chamfered ceiling beams and joists; wattle and daub
to back walls. Ledged and braced and panelled doors. Late C18 staircase
to rear right corner of entrance hall has moulded handrail and stick balusters
to first flight. Collar and tie beam roof trusses and oak floor boards to
attic.
