House and attached outbuildings. Mid-to late C18 with minor later additons
and alterations. Uncoursed limestone rubble with red brick dressings,
formerly rendered; hipped open-well graded slate roof with C19 yellow brick
ridge stacks to left and right. 2 storeys and attic. 5 windows; glazing
bar sashes with plain stone lintels, 15-paned and extending to ground to
ground floor. Central entrance; mid-C19 half-glazed door under wooden
Doric porch with plain entablature. Four glazing bar sashes to rear with
entrance in second bay from left through 6-panel door with rectangular barred
overlight. L-shaped outbuildings attached to rear on left, enclosing cobbled
courtyard. Uncoursed sandstone rubble with graded slate roof, hipped to
north range. One storey. West range has C19 leaded casements alternating
with boarded doors. North range similar with wide double doors in angle
with west range. Interior. Central hall has dog-leg staircase with carved
open string, 2 stick balusters to each tread and ramped wreathed handrail;
top-lit by oval-shaped cupola with plaster decoration to sides. Similar
carved open string and stick balusters to back staircase. Most rooms retain
original panelled doors, some with fluted surrounds and carved rosettes
to corners. Plaster cornices with egg and dart moulding to friezes and
rosette emblems. Panelled window shutters and cellar to right. C19 cast-
iron fireplaces to first-floor rooms. Attic has plank doors and 3 upper
cruck trusses probably contemporary with construction of house. West range
of outbuildings has bread oven and cast-iron sink with furnace below to
left. Stables in north range with C19 wooden partitions and cast-iron
