Cottage and attached outbuilding. Mid-to late C17 with later additions
and alterations. Painted uncoursed limestone rubble and brick to cottage,
timber framed with painted brick infill to right part of outbuilding;
graded slate roof. House-part of end baffle-entry plan in 2 framed
bays with single-bay cowhouse (latterly smithy and now used for storage)
attached to left gable end. Lower building attached to left, former
horses' entrance to smithy now converted to garage. One storey and
attic. Cottage has two C19 gabled eaves dormers and C20 casement to
left and C19 casement to right on ground floor. Boarded door to far
right under C20 open gabled timber porch.Integral end stack directly above with
painted brick shaft. Infilled doorway to left at junction
with outbuilding which has two C20 windows to front. C19 rubblestone
lean-tos to rear of cottage. Interior. Chamfered spine beam to ground-
floor room of cottage which has large open fireplace to right with cham-
fered wooden lintel. Infilled fireplace to rear left corner. Timber
frame fragmentarily exposed including to back wall of outbuilding:
square panels with woven infill. Staggered single-purlin roof in 3
bays (including to outbuilding) has one queen-strut, one queen-post
and one collar and tie beam truss respectively from left to right; straight
windbraces. Position of infilled fireplace suggests that smithy formerly
extended into left part of house.
