Pair of houses. Early C19 with minor later additions and alterations. Cement-rendered brick and uncoursed limestone rubble with plinth and imitation angle quoins; low pitched hipped slate roof with deep eaves, red brick ridge stack to centre and integral end stack to right. Three storeys and cellar. Six windows with wider gap to centre; glazing bar sashes with margin lights to sides and top, reduced proportions to top floor. Each house has central entrance, left (Prospect House) with C20 diagonally boarded door and C19 rectangular barred overlight in Doric-columned stone doorcase with plain moulded entablature. Lion Hotel has recessed six-panel door (upper panels now glazed) with rectangular overlight under stone Doric porch with plain moulded entablature. Stone mounting block attached to right return and C19 service ranges and outbuildings attached to rear. The border with Wales runs north-south through main part of building.
