Farmhouse. Mid C16, extended late C16 and mid C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber-framed on rubblestone plinth with painted brick infilling, partially
roughcast; slate roofs, axial brick ridge stack to main range. L-shaped in plan;
the house has developed from a long mid C16 range to the east, the northern
two bays of
which were added or re-built in mid C17; in the later C16 a short range of 1½ bays
was added to the west at its south end and then a 3-storeyed gabled addition (c.1600)
behind. Two storeys and attic; east front now of five framed bays; the first two bays (from
the south) are close-studded with three cross rails, one tension brace, the rest is
roughcast; C19 casements to ground and first floors, C20 lean-to extension to front
to right; the south gable end, also close-studded, is jettied to the attic floor; the
reconstructed timber-framed porch over the 6-panel door has elaborately decorated
bargeboards and finial together with the inscription REPARED above its
outer arch; the range to the west is also close-studded MDCCCXLIX but has only
2 cross rails with curved braces above the top rail slightly projecting multi-
paned C19 timber windows on both floors; brick end stack and stone clad gable
(now roughcast). West front 3-storeyed gabled projection with vertical panelling
and V-struts to top rail to right, close studding on right of main range; the 2 left
hand bays have 3½ large square panels up to eaves (the light horizontal rails in each
panel being later insertions), stone cladding to gable; C19 casements and late C20
entrance porch in angle with 3-storeyed gabled projection.
