Cottage and smithy. Probably early to mid C17 with later additions and alterations.
Uncoursed limestone rubble, reed thatch roof, prominent axial ridge stack
with dripstones and capping, C20 lateral integral red brick stack to right.
l½ storeys; irregular fenestration, C19 and C20 casements, one to first floor,
2 to ground, 2 eaves dormers cut into thatch; entrance to right with cambered
arch under C20 lean-to porch. The disused smithy to left is approached through
double doors in C19 lean-to to left, double hatch to right next to a semi-
circular slate capped projection for a former furnace. Interior of cottage
has a large fireplace with bread oven to right and moulded beam above (in
main room to left); wide stop chamfered ceiling beam and heavy joists; simple
straight flight staircase with winder and subsidiary short flight to room
above smithy.
