GV II

House, formerly house and bakery. C16, extended and altered Cl7, C18, C19.
Walls timber frame and rubble stonework, rendered and lined out ashlar-fashion
to street elevation; roofs covered variously with stone slabs, local slates
laid to diminishing courses, and Welsh slate; red brick stacks. Timber frame
(C16) building. 4 bays, 2 storeys, the two eastern bays originally open to
roof frame first floor level; the remaining bays have an original upper half
storey. Stone block to west. 3 storeys including vaulted basement, possibly
medieval, one room to each floor. Rear addition late C17/early C18, 2 storeys,
forming L-plan with timber-framed block. Former bakery adjoins to west. Front
elevation follows curve of street, in 3 parts. Bakery to left with 2 irregular
casement windows and first floor loading door; then block with 1 sash window to
ground and first floors (projecting cills and fictule flat voussoirs to openings)
and slit window to basement. Main house has 3 sash windows to first floor;
doorway with ½-glazed 4 panel door with overlight, 2 sash windows, and projecting
shopfront with central door to right. Two ridge stacks. Interior has much
exposed timber framing and some early C18 joinery.
