Small country house. Mainly mid- to late C19 but incorporating late
C16 core. Timber framed with plaster infill and part rendered and painted
black and white in imitation; slate roofs. 3-bay late C16 core remains
to centre on ground floor; apart from some late C17 or early C18 timber
framing (square panels) to one of rear gables, the rest of the house is
in a mid-Victorian Elizabethan style. 2 storeys with 4 full-
height gables to front. Framing: except for close studding with straight
tension braces to ground floor and herringbone bracing above moulded
bressumer to C16 part, majority of decoration is painted included quatrefoils,
trefoil-headed arches and patterns resembling plate tracery. 8-window
front. Mainly late C19 cross-windows and mullioned and transomed windows,
including to gables (second from left canted) which have elaborately
carved finials: left gable has gabled porch attached with stone armorial
shield above traceried double doors. Late. C19 elaborately moulded red
brick ridge stack at junction with left gable and external stone lateral stack
to right with elaborate octagonal shaft and circular shaft with twisted
decoration possibly reused from C16 house; plain rectangular red brick
stack in roof slope to rear possibly also part of earlier house. Interior:
C19 panelled rooms, staircase (copy of C17 type), vaulted ceilings with
moulded wooden ribs and carved bosses and plaster reliefs in far right
room. Mid-C20 planted timber frame addition to left carried round
to rear as gable is not of special architectural interest.
