Farmhouse. Early C17, remodelled late C18 or early C19 with later additions
and alterations. Timber framed with painted brick infill, now partly
rebuilt in brick and roughcast to front; slate roof. Original baffle-entry
plan comprising hall-range of 2 wide framed bays with 2-bay cross-wing
projecting to right; eaves of both hall and cross-wing have been raised
and painted brick additions built to left and right in mid-C19. One
storey and attic. Framing: exposed to back wall (now largely concealed
externally by later brick outshut); square panels, 3 from cill to original
wall-plate with short straight tension braces, one square panel above; -
rear gable of cross-wing has collar and tie beam truss with V-struts from
collar. Three late C19 segmental-headed casements to ground floor of hall
range with C20 gabled eaves dormers directly above; one segmental-headed
casement to ground floor of cross-wing with C20 casement above. Entrance
through C20 glazed porch in angle between hall range and cross-wing,
boarded door. Prominent axial brown brick ridge stack directly above
and former end stack to left at junction with C19 addition. C19 gabled
brick addition housing staircase to rear in angle between hall range and
cross-wing. Interior: timber framed square panelling exposed to back
wall of hall range and to cross-wall of cross-wing. Left ground-floor
room-of hall range has chamfered spine beam with jewel stops; right
ground-floor room has chamfered spine beam with straight-cut stops and
joists with ogee stops; inglenook fireplace. Chamfered cross-beam to
cross-wing; several C17 plank doors. Collar and tie beam end truss exposed
to right of hall range.
