Description

WORTHEN C.P -
SJ 30 SW

5/91 Lady House Farmhouse
-

- II

Farmhouse. Probably c.1600, extended late C18 and late C20. Rendered
timber frame and rendered brick additions; plain tile and slate roofs.
Baffle-entry plan of 3 or 4 framed bays, formerly jettied to front,
with short range added at right-angles to rear in late C18 and roughly
contemporary range parallel to rear; slightly lower late C20 addition
to left. 2 storeys and gable-lit attics; irregular fenestration, 4
late C20 casements to first floor, right with C19 segmental head, and
3 to ground floor, second from left in position of former doorway.
C20 lean-to porch to right over C17 plank door, probably moved from
original position. Prominent brown brick ridge stack slightly to left
of centre. Straight line in render below first-floor windows suggests
presence of a former jetty and the outline of a long straight tension
brace is visible to left on ground floor. Interior: right ground-
floor room has massive deep-chamfered spine beam with straight-cut
stops and flat, heavy joists; infilled inglenook fireplace and 2 exposed
wall posts. Salop Fire Insurance plate numbered 8842 fixed to ceiling
beam. C20 addition to left is not of special architectural interest.
