Farmhouse. C1590 for Richard Powell with later additions and alterations.
Roughcast concealing timber frame with brick infill; slate roofs. T-plan
comprising gabled cross-wing to left and hall range apparently of 3½ framed
bays to right. 2 storeys and gable-lit attics. FRAMING: parts of square panels
visible beneath render to cross-wing with overhanging first floor to hall range.
C20 fenestration, one casement on each floor to cross-wing with 3 on first floor
of hall range and one to either side of roughly central gabled porch with round-
headed outer arch; inner 6-panel door has rectangular barred overlight. 2 massive
external stone stacks with red brick shafts to back wall of hall range and similar
lateral stack to cross-wing. INTERIOR: inspection not possible at time of
resurvey (December 1985) but said to have original oak panelling with curious
painted decoration to attics and deep-chamfered ceiling beams throughout. Richard
Powell, a wealthy merchant, was Bailiff of Shrewsbury in 1573 and 1591. Trans.
