4/51 The Old Post Office
- and Holland Cottage
House, now divided into 2. Mid-C17 with later additions and alterations.
Timber framed with rendered infill on rendered rubblestone plinth; slate
roof with ornamental cresting, carved bargeboards and shaped finials.
Original plan apparently of 3 framed bays with short end bay added in late
C17. One storey and attic. Framing: square panels, 3 from cill to wall-
plate with a long straight tension brace to front left corner. C19
casements throughout including to canted bays to far left and immediately
to right of roughly central 4-panel door (top panels now glazed). Gable
to left of centre has 3-light casement on each floor; another 3-light case-
ment to far right. 3 late C19 gabled dormers in bottom of roof slope,
one to left and 2 to right of gable, that furthest to right with leaded
casement. Internal red brick end stack with toothed capping to left.
Painted rubblestone cladding to right gable end, which has principal rafters
of original roof exposed. Interior: far right (Holland Cottage) only
inspected. This has original end wall visible (square panels with
collar and tie beam truss), showing that end bay is an addition.
