3/73 Clunton Mill House
21.3.68 (formerly listed as Mill House)

Farmhouse, now house. Early to mid-C17, eaves raised and extended late
C18 or early C19 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with
rendered and painted brick infill; regularly coursed limestone rubble
addition. Corrugated iron roof with slates to rubblestone addition.
Original 2-cell plan with eaves raised and extended by one bay to left
in late C18 or early C19. 2 storeys. Framing: square panels, 3 from
cill to original wall-plate, with corrugated iron cladding to raising of
eaves. Early C20 casement to left of boarded door to left of C17 part and
C19 casement to right. First floor has C19 casement to left and C20
casement to right, both directly below eaves. C19 fixed-light window
to ground floor of rubblestone addition. Massive stepped external end
stack to right with C20 red brick top and painted rubblestone lean-to
abutting, probably housing bread oven. External lateral stack to front
of rubblestone addition. Interior: timber frame substantially intact
to C17 part, including square panels to cross wall. Right ground-floor
room has parallel deep-chamfered spine beams and heavy joists. First floor
not inspected but said to retain C17 roof trusses. C20 painted brick lean-
to to right of end stack is not of special interest.
