Cottage, now disused. Mid-Cl7, remodelled late C18 or early C19 with later
additions and alterations. Roughcast timber frame with rendered lathe and
plaster infill; roughly coursed limestone rubble additions, also roughcast;
hipped slate roofs. Original house of 3 framed bays with roof rebuilt and
hip-roofed range added at right-angles to rear on right in late C18 or early
C19. 2 storeys. Framing: square panels, 5 from cill to wall-plate.
Front wall has roughly central boarded door with Y-tracery to semi-circular
fanlight. Late C19 metal casements on each floor to right of C20 lean-to
porch with inner C19 plank door in angle with range projecting to rear.
This has two C19 casements to ground floor and 2 blind segmental-pointed windows
to left return on ground floor. External rubblestone stack with red brick
top to left end of main range and integral lateral rubblestone stack
with red brick shaft to back wall on right, now incorporated in C19 addition.
Interior: framing visible: square panels to outside walls with close studding
to partition walls. C19 addition is timber framed to first floor; sawn close-
set vertical posts. Left ground-floor room has chamfered spine beam and
flat joists. Large fireplace with C19 cast-iron cooking range. C19 door
to right room has 2 recessed blind quatrefoil panels. Straight-flight staircase
to centre leads to first floor with stone steps running in opposite direction
from back wall leading to cellar under right part of main range and C19 addition.
C19 addition has circular cast-iron sink with furnace below. C19 cast-iron
hour-glass grate to fireplace in right first-floor room of main range. Roof
entirely reconstructed above wall-plate level in C19 but C17 jowled wall posts
visible on first floor.
