Cottage. Late C17, eaves raised mid-C19 with later additions and
alterations. Timber framed with rendered and painted brick infill
on high rubblestone plinth to right, eaves raised in brick and partly
roughcast; slate roof. Original 2-cell baffle-entry plan with eaves
raised in mid-C19; lower C19 gabled rubblestone addition attached to
south gable end, where ground level falls. Framing: best preserved
on east side, square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate. Collar and
tie beam end trusses with V-struts from collars and formerly with double
purlins have short straight braces from wall posts to tie beam: position
of infilled 2-light wooden mullion window visible to north gable end.
West side has three C19 cast-iron latticed casements directly below eaves
and C20 casements to either side of boarded door to left of centre. C19
leaded casement to high plinth on right. Rendered rubblestone stack
immediately in front of ridge to right of centre has dripstone and top
rebuilt in late C19 red brick. Brick projection for bread oven beneath.
Boarded door under bracketed lean-to hood on east side directly beneath
stack is original baffle entry. Interior: inspection not possible at
time of resurvey (September 1986) but likely to be of interest.
