5/5 Wood Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber
framed on uncoursed limestone rubble and brick plinth with plaster and
painted brick infill and cladding, slate roof. One storey and attic;
3 framed bays; framing: exposed to left side of front, one square panel
above high inserted brick plinth, and to rear, 3 square panels from
cill to wall-plate with one long slightly curving tension brace; right-
hand bay largely re-built in brick to front and rear; irregular fenestration,
2 late C19 casements to each side of central boarded door with contemporary
gabled eaves dormers above to left and right, blocked door to right, red
brick end stacks, integral to left and external to right with toothed band
at base of tall shaft. Early C19 rubblestone and brick lean-to to
rear and mid-C19 lean-to abutting right gable end and stack. Interior:
timber frame substantially intact including cross wall immediately
to right of entrance, moulded cross beam with run-out stops in left ground-
floor room; chamfered wooden lintel to fireplace with external stack,
probably mid-C18 winder staircase to back wall has carved pointed newel;
Queen-strut roof in 3 bays, truss immediately to right of entrance with
cambered tie beam.
