5/6 Bridge House
Shown on O.S. map as Bridge Farm.
Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C16 with later additions and alterations,
principally of early C19. Timber framed with plaster infill, machine tile
roofs. Original house a T-plan consisting of 3-bay hall with cross-wing
to right; 2-bay gabled brick range added at right-angles to left in early
C19. 2 storeys and attics; framing: small square panels, 6 from cill to
wall-plate with hewn jettying to gable on first floor, long straight tension
braces; irregular fenestration to C16 part, C20 metal casements below
eaves to left and right with full gabled dormer between, 3-light casement
to lower left with nail-studded door to right, one 4-light casement on
each floor to cross-wing; left gable has 2 glazing bar sashes on ground and
first floors and one to attic, all with segmental heads; prominent red
brick ridge stack with 3 attached shafts of star section to right of hall
range; gables (including that to dormer) all with late C19 fretted
bargeboards. Interior: timber frame substantially intact, chamfered ceiling
beams throughout with straight-cut chamfer stops; collar and tie beam
