School, now house. 1872 by Richard Norman Shaw. Timber framed and
coursed limestone rubble, machine tile roofs. T-plan with school to
right and gabled former schoolmaster's accommodation to left. One
storey to school, 2 storeys to house; timber framed gable supported
on carved wooden brackets; one 6-light wooden mullion window on first
floor of gable with 5-light stone mullion window below to right,
pointed doorway to left; school has 2 wooden mullioned and transomed
windows with leaded lights extending up as tile-hung dormers projecting
through roof slope, pointed doorway to right; right gable end with
3-light cusped window to first floor and 5-light mullion window below
to right; prominent tall red brick ridge stack with coupled shafts
to left of school range. The school was built at the expense of the
local landowner, Arthur Sparrow. Andrew Saint, Richard Norman Shaw
