Malt-house. Probably early C19. Coursed Alberbury breccia and red sandstone
rubble with some red brick dressings; slate and corrugated iron roof with
plain tile roof over wing. L-plan. Dentil brick eaves cornice. 3 storeys
with 2-storey wing. North-east front: 4 second-floor 2-light wooden windows
with diamond mullions; 2 first-floor 2-light segmental-headed windows with
diamond mullions and 2 narrow vents to right, left-hand one blocked;
central ground-floor segmental-headed boarded opening with flanking boarded
doors, that to left with segmental head. Right-hand return front with
8 stone steps up to first-floor boarded door and boarded second-floor
loft door above with hoist. 5 narrow vents to first -floor at rear, all
blocked except for one. Segmental-headed boarded door in return front of
rear wing with slate-roofed porch in angle. Interior: drying kiln in ground
floor or rear wing with 2 central brick piers and rendered vaults. Included
as an unaltered example for group value.
