Farmhouse. Mid-C17, extended in the C18, partly rebuilt in the early
C19, and extended in the late C19. Red brick incorporating timber frame
and rendered to rear; plain tile roofs. L-plan; C17 house of 2 former
timber framed bays aligned approximately north-east/south-west with
C18 brick addition to north-east and C19 addition to north-west. 2
storeys and attic. South-east front: external brick end stack to right
(corbelled-out with segmental arch over ground-floor window) and former
external lateral brick stack at left at rear (now ridge stack to later
wing); central C20 roof-light. 3-window front; C19 three-light
segmental-headed wooden casements except for central first-floor 2-light
casement; central half-glazed door with late C19 gabled timber porch.
Straight joint between first and second windows from right. Catslide
roof over outshut to rear. Interior: ground-floor room (parlour) to
south-west has chamfered beam with broach stops, and chamfered joists
with ogee and run-out stops; first-floor cross-beamed ceiling with
ogee stops; early C19 staircase with closed string, stick balusters, turned
newel post, and moulded handrail; 3-bay roof has collar and tie-beam
trusses with queen struts and V-struts, and single staggered purlins with
wind braces. Hall Mill is not recorded before 1670. V.C.H. Vol. VIII,
p. 195.
