Chest tomb with railed enclosure. Dated 1824. Grey sandstone ashlar
tomb. Sarcophagus type. Moulded plinth, fluted corner piers, moulded
cornice, and concave top to gadrooned and fluted pyramidal cap with small
globe finial. Inscribed: "IN MEMORY OF JOHN SPEARMAN. Esqr. / late of
OXON in this County, who died / Decr 27th, 1824, aged 60 years". Further
inscription to the memory of Richard Spearman too. Wrought-iron railed
enclosure with spearhead railings and square-section standards with urn
finials. The former Church of the Holy Trinity (q.v.), now ruined, was
replaced by a new building in the village in 1887.
