Cottage, now unoccupied. C18, partly refaced in the mid-to late C19. Timber
framed with painted brick nogging, refaced to front and left-hand gable
end in rendered brick. Slate roof. Framing: square panels (3 from
sole plate to wall plate) with long straight tension braces. Baffle-
entry plan of 2 framed bays. One storey and attic. Central brick
ridge stack behind ridge. Two gabled eaves dormers with 2-light wooden
casements. Two-window front; 2-light C19 wooden casements. Central C19
half-glazed door with later gabled porch. Right-hand gable end with
boarded door to left, and collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts.
Brick and timber framed lean-to at rear with bread oven and external lateral
brick stack. Interior: central dressed sandstone stack. Large open
fireplace in left-hand ground-floor room with chamfered wooden lintel. Bread
oven in right-hand ground-floor room. Cased ceiling beams and brick floors.
Winder staircase in left-hand front corner. Despite the partial refacing, this
is still a complete and rare example of a late timber framed baffle-entry
house.
