- railings to Lower House
(formerly listed as Lower
29.1.52 House including gate piers)

GV II

Gate piers, gates and railings. Gate piers 1757, gates and railings probably
early to mid-C19. Gate piers: sandstone ashlar (retaining traces of paint);
square section with moulded capping and grooved ball finials; left pier
inscribed "17", right pier "57". Wrought iron gates and railings flanking
path to Lower House (q.v.); alternate straight and curved railings with
spear-head finials and urn-capped standards. Yew hedge to either side of
gate piers is cut in the form of an arcade, screening Lower House (q.v.)
from road.
