2, the Farmhouse
Barn. Early to mid-C18 with some C19 and C20 alterations to openings.
Red brick with plain tile roof. 8-bay barn with loft over cow
houses tiwwst. Parapeted gable ends. Elaborate venting in tiers
including diamond-shaped honeycombing. North side: pair of large
barn doors to left; boarded loft doors and cow house doors alternating
with windows to right; external brick steps up to boarded granary
door in right-hand gable end. Interior of barn: king-post roof
trusses and pairs of purlins; timber cross-frames on low brick
walls with angle braces and central posts. Despite some later
alterations this is a good example of a large C18 barn, notable
for its elaborate venting pattern and forming part of a small farmstead
group including Nos. 1 and 2, The Farmhouse (q.v.).
