Farmhouse. Probably late C16 with C18 and C19 alterations and additions.
Red brick, partly rendered, with timber framed core; plain tile roofs.
2 bays aligned approximately north-east/south-west with projecting
2-bay gabled cross-wing to south-west. One storey and attic. South-
east front: two C19 gabled semi-dormers to right with C20 two-light
wooden casements; rendered ridge stack off-centre to right and rendered
external end stack in front of cross-wing to left. 2 ground-floor
windows to right [that to right replacing former door (see straight
joints)] and C20 two-light wooden casement to each floor of left-
hand cross-wing; segmental-headed boarded door off-centre to left.
Gabled brick addition in angle at rear (north-west) with external
brick end stack. Interior: central ground-floor room has deeply-
chamfered cross-beamed ceiling with chamfered joists, and large open
fireplace with large chamfered wooden lintel returning to chamfered
dressed sandstone reveals, one with surviving broach stop; C18 doors;
old winder staircase; much surviving timber framing including posts,
cross walls, and roof trusses with purlins; one wind brace with C17
painted black interlacing scrolled design. The house probably occupies
the site of the medieval manor house of Betchcott. Included as part
of a complete farmstead group (including two timber framed barns)
and for its surviving good internal features. Included for group
