Cottage, now lodge. Late C17 with late C18 remodelling and mid to late C19
additions. Timber framed with rendered infill and painted rubble and brick
additions; C19 and C20 plain tile roof. Irregular T-plan, 2 or 3 framed bays
with additions; C18 Gothic remodelling. One storey and attic. West front:
brick ridge stack off-centre to left, integral brick end stack to right, and
brick ridge stack to wing at rear. Central gable with pierced scalloped barge
boards and C20 2-light diamond-leaded casement, and 2 C20 flat-topped dormers
to left with 3-light casements. Framing: square panels, 3 from sole plate to
wall plate; long straight tension braces. C18 2-light diamond-leaded ogee-
headed Gothic casement to left, and 2 C20 2-light diamond-leaded casements to -
right, that-to left in blocked doorway; C20 boarded door off-centre to left.
2 C18 2-light Gothic casements in left-hand gable end, that on ground floor
with later modification, and 2 in rear wing. Timber framed gables have
exposed collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts, that at rear with
V-struts also. Interior not inspected but noted as having open fireplace
and chamfered beams. The building is now the gate lodge to Acton Burnell Hall
(q.v.).
