Boreton Bridge

II

Bridge. Dated 1826 with late Cl9 and c 1930 alterations. Painted cast iron span, red brick abutments, corrugated decking, and concrete and steel balustrade. Single span consisting of four cast segmental ribs with pierced spandrels and lattice girders at right-angles adjoining abutments at ends; probably late C19 red brick abutments with parapets; c1930 concrete balustrade with steel balusters and rail. Date cast in central 'keystone' on each side. There has been a bridge on this spot since 1659 but the present structure was re-erected by Thomas, Lord Berwick, during the period when Thomas Telford was County Surveyor (1797-1834). The bridge spans the Cound Brook.
